New Zealand’s compensation scheme for accidents will cover overseas tourists who happens to be injured in an accident. The compenastion scheme will pay for any medical expenses regarding accidents. The cost of other existing medical conditions must be paid by tourists and it’s recommended to purchase a health insurance if such a pre-existing condition exists.
Even if pharmacists will offer free advice on various health matters a valid doctor’s prescription will be needed to obtain some specific medication. Tourist can pay about NZ$50 for a visit to the doctors (costs less for children). In case of an emergency tourists can dial 111 to request an ambulance.
